Proud Husband

"If I may brag, Amy just won a first place award in COMMENT AND CRITICISM for 2007 from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors association. (This is for her movie reviews for the Houston Chronicle. You can find her stuff easily on Web, notably the site Rotten Tomatoes, which compiles reviews. She writes as Amy Biancolli.)

Christopher D. Ringwald"

Bus Trip to Harlem as Part of The Big Read

On May 12, 2007, UHLS is sponsoring a trip to Harlem as part of the Big Read.
Go for a walking tour of the "Harlem Renaissance."
The day will begin at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. From there there will be a walking tour of Harlem Renaissance sights such as the Dark Tower (Madam C.J. Walker); Pod's & Jerry's (speakeasy where Billie Holiday got her start); the home of Langston Hughes; Sugar Hill, home of Duke Ellington; Smalls Paradise; the Apollo Theater; the Savoy Ballroom; the home of Wallace Thurman; and much more.
The group will then dine on delicious soul food at Sylvia's, one of the community's finest restaurants and a favorite of Bill Clinton. Eat fried chicken, fish, candied yams and other dishes while listening to Harlem Renaissance tunes by the likes of Lena Horne, Alberta Hunter, Roland Hayes and Duke Ellington.
The tour will be conducted by the Harlem Heritage Tourism and Cultural Center. Visit their website at www.harlemheritage.com.
The trip, which includes transportation, tour, and lunch, costs $90 per person and is limited to 45 people. Please get your reservations in early! Mail a check made out to UHLS to Eileen Williams, Guilderland Public Library, 2228 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY, 12084. For additional information about the trip, contact Eileen at 456-2400 x7 or williame@uhls.lib.ny.us. Registration confirmation with received payment.
The bus will leave from William K. Sanford Library (Colonie) at 6:30 a.m. (parking in rear of building) and return around 7 p.m.
