The Friends welcome Tom Ellis

Local activist, Tom Ellis reviews the autobiographical book Son of Mountains: My Life as a Kurd and a Terror Suspect by Yassin Aref.

In 2004, Mr. Aref, was arrested in Albany for allegedly being part of a terrorist ring, he was convicted in 2006 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

While the FBI stands by its investigation, many people still believe that this was a wrongful conviction.

Come join the Friends at 12PM on Tuesday, January 13

Check out Mr. Aref here.

I love this book. Yassin Aref is a beautiful write and a beautiful person. The story or the government's crimes against him is shameful.

But in my work in the community here, I notice that many my students have fathers in prison, and many of those dads are wrongfully incarcerated.

I believe Yassin Aref, who worked within Albany's least privileged communities, wonders the same thing.

I hope this review will cover prison issues, not just the prison issues that can be used to confront this atrocious war.

Everyone's life needs to be seen as equal.

Yes, celebrate Aref's bravery and talents -- his beautiful life's work. But also notice that he is not alone -- and the movement to remember ALL the survivors of the prions industrial state is far too silent in our town.

Is Aref seeking pardon from President Obama?

Can we support that.... How?
