The Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS) has a challenging opportunity for a creative library professional to join our team. We are a cooperative library system headquartered in Albany, NY, providing services to enhance, support and connect the 29 independent public libraries in New York’s Albany and Rensselaer Counties.
Our new colleague will collaborate with UHLS staff and our member libraries to provide System services focusing on:
• adult services support and continuing education

The Head of Branches must insure library policies and procedures are followed as well as lead by example. At times the Head of Branches would also be responsible for working at the circulation and reference desk as needed. Other duties include the development and presentation of library programming and other duties as assigned.
Additional Desired Skills and Abilities: In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications for the position, the ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills; display an enthusiastic commitment to customer centered public library service; embrace the opportunity to work with a diverse customer base; demonstrate the ability to lead and manage the work of a team; and exhibit an innovative and creative approach to problem solving. NYLA Seeks Next Executive Director
The New York Library Association seeks a dynamic leader to be its next Executive Director. The New York Library Association (NYLA) is the voice of the library community in New York. NYLA, established by Melvil Dewey in 1890, is the oldest state library association in the country and represents school, college, special and public libraries, library staff, trustees, and students from around the state. NYLA has a staff of 4.5 FTE with offices located in Guilderland, New York.

APL Position Announced – Public Computer Center Manager – 6 month term
The Albany Public Library seeks a full time Public Computer Center Manager to manage and coordinate the expansion of its library-based public computing center. This is an independent contractor position funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) through October 31, 2012. The selected candidate will report to the Head of Reference Services. The candidate should be a highly motivated, self-starter who can work with direction and minimal supervision. The PCC Manager will work through the completion of the grant and reporting period, with the main focus being developing a plan for continuation of service, and searching for additional funding sources beyond the end of the grant.
Summary of Position:
· Develop a plan for sustainability of PCC services after the end of grant funding, including identifying and partnering with sources of volunteers (i.e., SUNY, Literacy Volunteers, etc.)
· Ensure that funds are spent in accordance with program requirements; all reporting requirements are met on time and with accuracy; all grant goals and objectives are met and completed
· Provide Training and Assistance to PCC Trainers, Albany Public Library staff, community partners and volunteers
· Coordinate the scheduling and staffing of the PCC and its services in concert with already-established Albany Public Library programs
· Identify vulnerable populations and implement audience-specific training programs
· Promote the PCC and the library’s services through a variety of measures, including attending meetings and preparing publicity
Minimum qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree. Post-degree professional work experience is preferred, especially in either fundraising/grant writing or volunteer coordination.

Mid-Hudson Library System seeks Automation Coordinator
The Mid-Hudson Library System, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, is seeking an experienced librarian to lead and administer automation services to sixty-six public libraries, which serve communities ranging in population from several hundred to 70,000.
The Automation Coordinator, with a salary range of $56,000 to $61,000, is a member of the System’s senior management team and includes the supervision of a small staff. The position is responsible for ensuring the reliability and integrity of the integrated library system (ILS), which is Innovative's Millennium. Executive Director, Mid-Hudson Library System
The Board of the Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS), an Equal Opportunity Employer, is expanding its search for the position of Executive Director due to the June retirement of the 10-year incumbent. Based in Poughkeepsie, New York, MHLS is a state-supported cooperative/ interdependent system of 66 large and small local libraries in a five-county region of the mid-Hudson River valley. 17 full-time and 8 part-time employees provide a wide range of catalogue, circulation, program, support, and technology services to the member libraries. Program Plan of Service and annual budget application require State approval.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Trustees and will provide oversight and leadership for the staff in developing these programs and services. Extensive communication and interaction with the Directors and Boards of the member libraries is required to determine the specific mix which will best meet the needs of the member libraries.
